Judith Mhina – MAELEZO

The Regional Commissioner for Tabora Region, Honourable Aggrey Mwanry has urged the region to play their part for ensuring that girls fulfil their education and prevent pregnancy of primary school girls.

He gave this statement during the opening of Ward Education Officers from Tabora Region at a two day EQUIP workshop held at Urambo District Council.

Mwanry was very furious about the bad habits of the men who cut off the prosperity dreams of the girls before they finish their education carrier.

“Girls like boys deserve to realise their dreams,” said Mwanry.

The pregnancy statistics show that, most of the pupils are under 14 of age for example in Urambo District  in 2014 one pupil got pregnant, 2015, three, 2016, four 4 pupils where by 5 cases in police 2 cases in village education Officer and 1 case on District magistrate.  In Igunga  by 2016, six pupils became pregnant all three cases were reported to police and three in District Magistrate.

RC was a witness to a case in Sikonge District when they found a girl, not in school because the parents decided the girl was to be married before completing her primary education. The Region including the RC himself and The Regional Defence and Safety Committee decided to fetch the parents. Sadly in the meantime the girl was already pregnant. The parents were sent to court, but in vain as all the family have left for another area.
“I swear, I will use all my efforts to make sure that, they take the families and relatives to court both who marry the school children,” he stressed.

Mwanry challenged the participants to increase cooperation between parents and schools. Well-informed parents are a key to the success for girls to attend school and the completion of their education without obstacles. He said that school clubs, especially counsellor or parents will open the eyes of the girls to understand that success in life begins with education.
